Joan of Arc was only 19 at the time of her execution, and it’s estimated that 10,000 people gathered to watch. Joan of Arc was known to pray at the Cathédrale Sainte-Croix in Orléans, France, which now features a statue of her. Titled The Passion of Joan of Arc, this 1928 silent film is the product of director Carl Theodor Dreyer and star Renée Jeanne Falconetti, who played Joan of Arc. Jules Bastien-Lepage's Joan of Arc Painting Has Been in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art Since 1889. Joan of Arc again became a symbol of French unity following the Franco-Prussian War and inspired this painting by artist Jules Bastien-Lepage.
