Why you can’t compare deaths after a positive Covid-19 test with deaths after a vaccine9 April 2021We’ve been asked by many readers via email, WhatsApp and Twitter whether there is a double standard in the way that deaths are reported during this pandemic. Specifically, people want to know why deaths after a positive test for Covid-19 are usually considered to be caused by it, whereas deaths after a Covid-19 vaccination are usually considered to be caused by something else. Deaths after a positive testAs of 9 April, 127,040 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive Covid test in the UK. However, it also does not include people who did die of Covid, but died more than 28 days after their first positive test. Deaths after vaccinationIn its latest report, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has received reports of 786 deaths after a Covid-19 vaccination, up to 28 March 2021.
